We celebrate the power of the unique and the hand made as tools to share human stories and connect lives. Our products support fair wages, sustainability, safe working environments, and a direct investment into artisan entrepreneurs.
Discover the story of textiles rich in both color and history. Using techniques that date back to the Pre-Columbian era, in communities whose weavers have passed down their craft through generations, these female artisans explore variations of their traditional community huipiles to hand weave textiles that are made into pillows and throws that are modern and luxe and do a beautiful job of adding life and texture to any environment.
Our artisan partners take environmental responsibility not just as an anecdote but as a way of life. Preserving ancient sustainable production methods, they source materials from the earth, using natural dyes culled from plant life and raw materials that can be traced down to their exact origin. The richest hues extracted from natural elements such as cochineal, indigo, pomegranate, marigold, and walnut to name a few. Watching the artisans manipulate the natural components, like adding lemon to cochineal to take it from magenta to orange, is to witness visual alchemy.
Casa Cubista deals in honest, traditional materials, from terra-cotta, to cotton, cane, jute and linen and collaborate closely with traditional craftspeople and small, family owned makers. As in the case of Rui, the chief ceramicist, whose family has been in the pottery business for over 200 years. Just about every piece in the terra-cotta line is thrown by Rui on the potter's wheel (he started in the family business when he was 8), and is then painted by his aunt Regina. Craftspeople who love their work, and you can feel it.
Beauty can change the world and beauty expressed in behavior is called kindness. So create it, absorb it, share it, experience it, feel it, live it… and let’s change the world together.
