Introducing Carded Wool Area Rugs by Awanay

We are pleased to announce that our longtime artisan partner, Awanay Rugs, is coming out with an exclusive new line of rugs now available to residential and commercial clients. This is the Carded Wool Rug Collection.

What is Carded Wool?

Carding is a mechanical brushing process that is done to the wool fibers before they are spun into yarn. The process results in a wool that is silkier and more even in tone and color than the wool that isn’t carded. Using this wool to create our handwoven area rugs results in rugs that are softer and have less organic color variation throughout.

Is it still the same Fair Trade Wool?

Yes, the wool itself is the same organic wool gathered from sheep that are raised in the same family or community as the artisan weavers who make the rugs. The dyes used are the same natural plant dyes that are used in our standard rugs and will be available in every colorway.. The carded wool rugs are also available in the same weaves, Nubby, Medium, Flatweave, Lomitas, and Cut Pile.

Who are the Carded Wool Rugs for?

The new collection is for anyone who prefers less organic variations than our original line in the color of their area rugs. They are also perfect for anyone that wants a more refined texture and softer feel in their rugs. Our original line is perfect for anyone who wants that signature natural color depth variation and organic texture in their rugs.

Which wool is better?

There is no ‘better’ wool. Both types of wool come from the same source, are dyed with the same natural dyes, and are spun and woven by hand by the same skilled artisan weavers. The difference is simply a matter of design preference. Carded wool rugs will work better for some design projects, and our original rugs will work better for others. It will come down to the style of the room and the personal preference of the designer or homeowner.

How do I order a Carded Wool Rug?

Please email us at hello@atacamahome.com with the dimensions, color, and desired weave of your rug and we will be happy to send you a quote. If you haven’t yet decided on the specifics, we can send over our line sheet that has all the options and prices for our Awanay rug line. We can also send rug samples to your home or office, as nothing can replace the value of seeing the color and textures of these rugs in the space they are made for in making the final design decisions.
