Every May, the design community descends on Los Angeles for something truly special: LEGENDS, the most anticipated interior design fair on the West Coast. Held in the iconic LA design neighborhood where La Cienega Blvd and Melrose Ave intersect, this three-day event isn’t just a festival—it’s a celebration of creativity, collaboration, and storytelling through design.
As an active member of the interior design community, I’ve attended LEGENDS several times, and each experience has left me creatively recharged and deeply inspired. Whether you're just starting out or have years of projects under your belt, here’s why I believe every designer should attend.
From LCDQ to DesignLA
As LEGENDS has grown, so has its vision. What began as an event centered around La Cienega Boulevard has now expanded to the surrounding streets and boulevards all the way down Melrose Ave to the Pacific Design Center and beyond, reflecting the broader design scene across Los Angeles. In response, the LCDQ recently rebranded as DesignLA—a shift that invites more design firms, makers, and creatives from across the city to participate and collaborate.
This evolution is exciting. It means more diverse voices, more neighborhoods represented, and a richer, more inclusive view of what makes Los Angeles a global design capital. While the roots of LEGENDS remain on La Cienega Blvd and Melrose Ave, the spirit of the event now touches the entire city, and there are exciting exclusive events happening on Robertson Blvd, Beverly Blvd, and Highland Ave as well.
A Hub of Creative Energy
LEGENDS is unlike any other design event. The streets of La Cienega buzz with energy as designers, editors, and industry leaders gather for panels, keynotes, showroom installations, and intimate cocktail events. The conference theme changes each year, giving the showrooms a chance to transform their windows into living art installations—each one telling a unique design story.
In 2023, the theme was “The Fashion of Home”, and walking past each window felt like flipping through a beautiful design book. I found myself pausing often, snapping photos, and even jotting down ideas on the spot. It’s impossible not to leave inspired.
Last year the theme was “Rooms In Bloom” and every showroom transformed itself with fantastic floral arrangements of every size and color.
This year, the theme is “Wanderlust” and I can’t wait to see how the designers are going to interpret the idea of travel into their window displays.
Thought-Leading Panels & Conversations
One of the biggest draws for me is the access to thoughtful conversations led by industry heavyweights. From sustainability in interior design to the future of handmade home goods, the panels are consistently rich with insight.
At one panel, I heard an editor from Architectural Digest talk about the resurgence of artisan craftsmanship in interiors. Another featured a candid conversation between top designers about balancing trend and timelessness. I always walk away with fresh perspectives and practical takeaways I can bring into my work.
Community Over Competition
What sets LEGENDS apart is its genuine sense of community. I’ve met designers from across the country, many of whom I now consider close friends and collaborators. The vibe is refreshingly welcoming—everyone is there to share, connect, and celebrate the craft of design.
The cocktail parties and showroom gatherings are a great way to meet fellow creatives in a relaxed setting. And because the crowd is full of editors, makers, and stylists, it’s also a fantastic opportunity to network in a way that feels organic.
Celebrate Handmade & Authentic Design
As someone passionate about handmade home decor, LEGENDS gives me a front-row seat to how artisans and creators are shaping the future of interiors. Many of the showrooms feature bespoke pieces and one-of-a-kind collaborations with local artists and makers.
If you care about sustainable sourcing, craftsmanship, and authenticity in design, this conference is your playground. You’ll find everything from artisan pillows to handmade lighting—pieces that tell a story and bring soul to a space.
The Verdict
If you’re an interior designer looking to grow your network, find inspiration, and immerse yourself in the heartbeat of the design world, LEGENDS is a must-attend. There’s no better place to celebrate the art of interiors, connect with like-minded creatives, and discover what’s next in design.
So mark your calendar, grab your notebook (and your walking shoes), and join the community in Los Angeles this May. You won’t regret it.
