About the Artisans

Made by the Tepehua-Otomi indigenous people tenangos are the result of the magical worldview that allows a simple fabric to become  one of the most impressive textile traditions of Mexico. Tenangos are swaths of hand-embroidered fabric that can be used to made pillows, tablecloths, and in this case, runners.

The craftwomen have used embroidery  as a vehicle of expression to capture not only animal and vegetable kingdom present in their everyday life, but also their dreams and vision of the cosmos.
